We are entering in an era where foldable smart phones will be a reality and we are very excited about the new technology as everyone is talking about this tech and want to own a device with foldable display.
Samsung was using flexible displays when they have introduced edge phones e.g samsung s7 edge was very famous back in the days back then they were using plastic underneath these flexible display panels which was not bendable while now they will be using plastic underneath these flexible display panels which is also bendable and will give the phone ability to fold and unfold.
Many companies like Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and many others have showed their prototypes for the smart phones and they all look really cool in videos but in reality because these are the first gen of foldable smart phones we will be facing many issues.
Like an issue with these phones which we have already seen is the bend where the screen is folded.
In Samsung demo videos they took real care not to show the hinge or bending mark on screen but a later on video by someone who got his hands on the device showed that there is a real bending mark on the display of device. There will be another problem which early adopters will face which is software although google has already begun working on the software side for new flexible screens but i think they will be learning alot in the early years of flexible phone adoption to improve the software accordingly.
The hinge is not going to be a problem for someone who do not mind slight imperfections but for perfectionist who want to get a perfect product will regret the purchase.
And because these early phones are going to be very expensive i think waiting for the next gen of foldable phones is not a bad idea.
I hope in next get we will be seeing better displays and also we will not see the bend marks on the screens. It will be disappointing if we see the hinge in next gen of foldable phones but there is a chance that people will not mind the hinge or bending on the screen and will totally accept that
Because at this point the market needs change and this is a very big change in smart phones in a decade which people are very excited about.
